Corsair Gaming (NASDAQ: CRSR) experienced a dramatic surge on Friday, with shares climbing more than 30% after the company reported second-quarter earnings that significantly exceeded expectations. The stock reached as high as $14.53 before settling at $13.87, representing a 30.7% gain on the day. This rally came as investors focused on the company's improving gross margins and a raised full-year profit outlook, rather than the one-time benefit of a tariff refund.

Earnings Breakdown

For the second quarter of 2026, Corsair reported net revenue of $314.3 million, slightly above the consensus estimate of $310.5 million, despite a 1.8% year-over-year decline. The company's gross profit jumped 21.4% to $104.3 million, with gross margin expanding by 635 basis points to 33.2%. Adjusted EBITDA more than doubled to $30.8 million, far exceeding the company's own guidance ceiling of $15.5 million. Non-GAAP diluted EPS came in at $0.23, compared to the consensus estimate of $0.07.

The profit beat was largely driven by a favorable product mix shift. Corsair's Gamer and Creator Peripherals segment, which includes high-margin products like Elgato streaming gear and sim racing equipment, saw revenue grow 13% to $115.9 million, with a gross margin of 44.9%. This segment accounted for 49.9% of the company's gross profit despite representing only 36.9% of revenue. In contrast, the Gaming Components and Systems segment saw revenue decline 9% to $198.5 million, with a gross margin of 26.3%.

Tariff Refund Impact

Investors were keenly aware that a significant portion of the earnings beat was due to a one-time tariff refund. Corsair recovered $15.6 million in tariffs previously paid, which contributed $14.3 million to adjusted EBITDA and $0.14 to adjusted EPS. Excluding this refund, adjusted EBITDA would have been $16.6 million, still up approximately 104% from $8.1 million in the prior year, with an underlying margin of 5.3% compared to 2.5% a year earlier.

The market's reaction appeared to look beyond this non-recurring item. Corsair's market capitalization increased by about $356 million, nearly 25 times the size of the refund's EBITDA impact, suggesting investors are pricing in sustained earnings improvement.

Raised Guidance

Corsair management raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance by 17.2%, from a midpoint of $107.5 million to $126 million. The company now expects adjusted EBITDA in the range of $121 million to $131 million, up from the previous $100 million to $115 million. Non-GAAP diluted EPS guidance was also lifted to $0.85-$0.94 from $0.58-$0.74. Revenue guidance was modestly increased to $1.40 billion-$1.47 billion from $1.33 billion-$1.47 billion.

For the third quarter, Corsair projects revenue between $320 million and $350 million, with adjusted EBITDA of $18 million to $21 million. The midpoint implies an adjusted EBITDA margin of 5.8%, which would exceed the second quarter's refund-adjusted margin of 5.3%, signaling that the earnings improvement could be sustainable.

Segment Performance and Strategic Moves

The company's direct-to-consumer sales grew, with Elgato Marketplace gross revenue and transaction volume both more than doubling in the first half. Over 500,000 new accounts were registered. However, the components division continued to struggle due to elevated memory prices, which dampened DIY PC building. Memory-related revenue still climbed 17%, and the segment's gross margin improved to 26.3%.

Corsair also finalized its acquisition of Trak Racer's assets on August 3, expanding its racing simulation offerings. The company's balance sheet remains solid, with $193.9 million in cash and restricted cash against $118.3 million in debt, and inventory down 12.8% since December.

Analyst Reactions

Following the earnings report, several analysts updated their price targets. Wedbush raised its target to $16 from $13 with an Outperform rating, while Roth Capital moved to $16 from $15 with a Buy. Baird and B. Riley Securities both set Neutral ratings with $12 targets, up from $8 and $9 respectively. Craig-Hallum also set a Hold with a $12 target. The average of these five targets stands at $13.60, slightly below the current share price.

Corsair's stock performance outpaced its peers, with Turtle Beach (NASDAQ: TBCH) rising 10.9% and Logitech (NASDAQ: LOGI) gaining 2.6% on the day. The company's surge highlights the market's positive reception to its margin expansion and strategic focus on high-growth segments, but investors should remain cautious about the one-time nature of the tariff refund and ongoing challenges in the components market.
