Innodata Inc. (NASDAQ: INOD) saw its shares climb 10.3% in after-hours trading on Thursday, reaching a provisional price of $72.21, following a robust second-quarter earnings report that exceeded market expectations. The company's revenue, earnings, and adjusted EBITDA all came in ahead of analyst projections, providing a strong signal for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Q2 Financial Highlights

For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Innodata reported revenue of $92.14 million, a 57.8% increase from the $58.39 million recorded in the same period last year. Adjusted EBITDA surged 91.6% to $25.36 million, up from $13.23 million in Q2 2025. Diluted earnings per share (EPS) more than doubled, rising 105% to $0.41 from $0.20 in the prior-year quarter. These figures surpassed the pre-report consensus estimates, which had projected revenue of $86.31 million, EPS of $0.21, and adjusted EBITDA of approximately $16.90 million.

The company's adjusted gross margin expanded to 49%, up from 43% a year ago. CEO Jack Abuhoff attributed this improvement to the increasing reuse of datasets and a focus on high-value pre-training initiatives. Selling and administrative expenses rose 89% to $26.6 million, reflecting investments in research, sales, and product team expansion.

Guidance and Market Expectations

Management reaffirmed its full-year guidance, calling for minimum revenue growth of 40% in 2026. This implies full-year revenue of approximately $352.3 million. With first-half revenue reported at $182.2 million, the company would need to generate $170.1 million in the second half, averaging about $85.0 million per quarter. This threshold is 7.7% below Q2's actual revenue, suggesting analysts were not anticipating sequential growth in the second half. The pre-report consensus had implied a need for roughly $87.4 million per quarter, indicating a slightly higher bar.

CEO Jack Abuhoff noted that multiple significant prospective programs were "not factored into our 40% number." During the quarter, Innodata added a new frontier-laboratory client, and these programs could potentially lead to upward revisions in guidance, though their timing remains uncertain.

Customer Concentration

Customer turnover increased during the quarter, though overall concentration saw minimal change. The largest customer accounted for 37% of revenue, down from 56% in Q1, while a newly revealed Big Tech client jumped to 34% from 17%. Together, the top two customers represented 71% of revenue, down slightly from 73% in the previous quarter. Management indicated that the largest customer generated less revenue than in Q1 but maintained that full-year revenue from this client is still expected to grow from 2025 levels.

Equity Program and Liquidity

Later on Thursday, Innodata announced a new $300 million at-the-market (ATM) equity program, which introduces potential dilution. Based on the after-hours share price of $72.21, a full $300 million sale would require the issuance of approximately 4.15 million shares, representing a theoretical 12.1% increase over the 34.38 million shares outstanding as of July 31. Actual dilution will vary depending on share prices, timing, and execution.

Despite the potential dilution, the company's liquidity remains solid. Cash and short-term investments totaled $250.4 million, though excluding customer prepayments, cash stood at approximately $134 million. Operating cash flow for the first half was $164.4 million, boosted by $65.2 million in customer advances and a $71.9 million increase in payables and accrued liabilities.

Strategic Developments

Innodata also launched a 12-part AI cyber-training suite on Tuesday. Company testing demonstrated that a tailored model's unassisted vulnerability-repair rate improved from 18.4% to 41.2%. This platform aligns with management's strategy to develop datasets with repeat sale potential. Additionally, Rahul Singhal is set to assume the role of chief executive on September 30, with Abuhoff transitioning to executive chairman.

Analyst Sentiment

The most recent analyst recommendations, published before the results, showed a consensus Strong Buy rating from four analysts, with an average price target of $122.75. This implies significant upside from Thursday's regular-session closing price of $65.48. Notable targets include George Sutton of Craig-Hallum at $120, Hamed Khorsand of BWS Financial at $140, Dan Ives of Wedbush at $120, and Allen Klee of Maxim Group at $111.

Shares had already gained 12.4% in the prior full week (July 24-31) and added another 4.2% this week through Thursday's close. The upcoming trading sessions will reveal whether the earnings rally can withstand concerns about financing and potential changes to analyst forecasts.
