Solana (SOL) has surged 26% over the past seven days, reaching $94.84 by early Saturday, as trading volume exploded fourteenfold to nearly $9 billion. The token's market value swelled by approximately $11.44 billion, yet fresh data reveal that U.S. Solana exchange-traded fund (ETF) inflows played only a marginal role in the repricing.

ETF Flows: A Minor Catalyst

According to daily flow reports from SoSoValue, U.S. Solana ETFs attracted just $24.65 million combined on Thursday and Friday. That figure represents a mere 0.22% of Solana's weekly market-value gain and about 0.045% of its current $55.31 billion market capitalization. While ETF demand provided some support, it clearly did not drive the bulk of the price move.

Network Upgrade: A Second Catalyst

Beyond the broader crypto rally, Solana's first staged slot-time reduction went live, cutting the target block time from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds—a 12.5% decrease. The official Solana account celebrated the milestone, stating, "We're in a new era of 350ms. Next stop, 300ms." The roadmap includes further reductions to 300ms, 250ms, and eventually 200ms, each gated separately and subject to network performance metrics. If skipped-block rates deteriorate, any stage can be paused.

Faster slot times can reduce confirmation latency and potentially allow market makers to quote tighter spreads, improving overall trading efficiency. However, the immediate price response was roughly twice the percentage size of the technical reduction, suggesting that positioning and sentiment played a larger role than the upgrade alone.

Broader Crypto Rally

Solana's gains occurred alongside a synchronized move across major cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin rose 22.8% over the same period, while Ether climbed 29.7%. This broad-based rally was fueled by a combination of ETF buying, short covering, and renewed risk appetite in the digital asset space.

Listed Proxies Amplify Moves

U.S.-listed companies holding Solana on their balance sheets magnified the token's performance. DeFi Development Corp. (NASDAQ:DFDV) gained 28.3% for the week, Upexi, Inc. (NASDAQ:UPXI) jumped 44.5%, and Sol Strategies Inc. (NASDAQ:STKE) rose 29.1%. These moves outpaced the underlying token, reflecting the leverage and volatility inherent in small-cap treasury stocks. Upexi's 44.5% weekly gain was about 18.5 percentage points higher than SOL's, a divergence that underscores the risks of using such equities as proxies for direct token exposure.

Analyst Targets and Risks

Analyst price targets for these proxy stocks appear aggressive relative to Friday's closes. For instance, DFDV has a consensus "Strong Buy" rating with an average target of $5.85, implying a 48.5% upside. UPXI carries a "Hold" rating with a target of $4.65, suggesting a 330.6% potential gain, while STKE's "Hold" rating targets $1.70, a 27.8% upside. However, these figures are based on only two published ratings per company and should be treated as scenario markers rather than broad Wall Street consensus.

Investors should remain cautious. Solana's price could reverse quickly if ETF creations fade or if leveraged crypto positions unwind. The upcoming 300-millisecond gate will test network reliability, and treasury stocks carry additional risks from dilution, custody, and balance-sheet leverage.

Looking Ahead

The coming week will be pivotal in determining whether price action can attract sustained flows. Market participants will monitor the proposed network upgrade, U.S. equity market reopening, and any shifts in crypto sentiment. The rally currently rests on three pillars: a stronger crypto tape, new fund demand, and faster infrastructure. Of these, only the broad market momentum has sufficient scale to explain most of the move so far.
