Kanzhun Limited (NASDAQ: BZ), the operator of Chinese recruitment platform BOSS Zhipin, saw its American Depositary Shares (ADSs) rally 16.1% to $18.92 on Wednesday morning following the announcement of a $230 million cash dividend and robust second-quarter financial results. The surge added approximately $1.08 billion in implied market value, nearly five times the value of the dividend payout.
The Beijing-based company reported a 14.1% year-over-year increase in revenue to RMB2.40 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Operating income climbed 32.6% to RMB863.2 million, driving the operating margin up by five percentage points to 36.0%. This margin expansion came despite a 38.3% jump in sales and marketing expenses, which were partially offset by lower share-based compensation and administrative costs. Total expenses rose just 6.1%, less than half the pace of revenue growth.
Kanzhun's core enterprise recruitment service generated RMB2.38 billion in revenue, accounting for 99.4% of total revenue. The number of paid enterprise customers increased by 10.8% to 7.2 million, while average monthly users grew 10.4% to 70.2 million, indicating sustained demand for its platform.
The company declared an annual dividend of $0.51 per ADS, equating to a 2.7% yield based on Wednesday's trading price. Shareholders of record as of September 28 are expected to receive the payout on or about October 14. This marks a significant step in Kanzhun's capital return strategy, which also includes an expanded share repurchase program. As of June 30, Kanzhun had completed over $300 million in buybacks and now has authorization for up to $400 million in repurchases until August 2027.
Founder and CEO Jonathan Peng Zhao emphasized that total dividends and buybacks planned for 2026 have already surpassed adjusted net income from the previous year. The board has set a goal to distribute at least 50% of the prior year's adjusted earnings through annual dividends and repurchases through 2028, underscoring confidence in the company's cash generation capabilities.
Looking ahead, management forecasts third-quarter revenue between RMB2.41 billion and RMB2.50 billion, implying growth of 11.4% to 15.6% year-over-year. The midpoint of this guidance is 2.3% higher than second-quarter revenue, suggesting continued momentum.
However, investors should note some cautionary factors. Operating cash flow declined 10.2% to RMB944.8 million in the quarter, and marketing expenditures surged due to World Cup-related campaigns. Net income surged 173% to RMB1.94 billion, but this was largely driven by a RMB1.47 billion gain from a change in the market value of an investee. Adjusted net income increased by a more moderate 9.4%, providing a clearer picture of underlying profitability.
Analysts have responded positively to the news. According to Google Finance, the latest four ratings include three Buy ratings and one Hold, with a consensus price target of $20, implying an upside of roughly 5.7% from the current level. The market's reaction highlights the growing importance of shareholder returns in the Chinese tech sector, as companies increasingly focus on capital efficiency and returning cash to investors.
Risks remain, including potential reversals in investment gains, fluctuations in China's recruitment cycle, and the impact of new AI hiring tools on demand or expenses. Nevertheless, Kanzhun's strong operational performance and clear commitment to shareholder returns have positioned the stock favorably in the eyes of many investors.
