Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) closed Friday at $223.96, up 2.27% for the session and 11.6% for the week, adding approximately $562 billion in market capitalization—its largest weekly gain on record. The surge came amid a broad rally in chip stocks, but the earnings bar barely moved, suggesting investors are repricing future AI demand rather than near-term fundamentals.

Preliminary consensus estimates for fiscal-2027 earnings rose just 0.2% over the past month, to $9.00 per share from $8.98, while the fiscal second-quarter estimate remained unchanged at $2.08. This disconnect between price action and estimate revisions is a key signal: buyers are betting on long-term AI infrastructure spending, not immediate profit growth.

Customer evidence helped bridge the gap. Elon Musk said SpaceX has decided to build exclusively on Nvidia, calling its Vera Rubin architecture the best. SpaceX also expects to take a significant percentage of Nvidia's GPUs next year, with AI capital spending reaching $15.83 billion in the June quarter. These are customer commitments, not Nvidia revenue guidance, but they carry weight in the market's assessment.

The chip rally was broad. Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) rose 9.9% for the week, while Taiwan Semiconductor (NYSE:TSM) gained 3.9%. The PHLX Semiconductor Index climbed 9.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 5.2%. Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) added just 1.5%, underperforming after its earnings report, as investors demanded a larger AI payoff.

AMD's modest weekly gain masked a sharp post-results setback. Its $13 billion third-quarter revenue outlook exceeded consensus, but the market wanted more concrete AI traction. SpaceX's supplier decision widened the narrative gap between Nvidia and its rivals.

Analyst sentiment remains overwhelmingly positive. Current consensus shows 61 Buy or Overweight recommendations, down from 65 three months ago, while Hold ratings declined to two. The median analyst target is $300, implying about 34% upside from Friday's close, though the low target of $180 suggests roughly 20% downside, leaving a wide valuation range.

The immediate test is macroeconomic. July CPI arrives Wednesday at 08:30 EDT, with a preliminary Reuters poll expecting 3.4% headline inflation and 2.5% core inflation. Strategist Matthew Miskin called the market's condition "inflation anxiety." Hot inflation could pressure tech valuations, especially for high-multiple names like Nvidia.

CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV), Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO), and Applied Materials (NASDAQ:AMAT) also report this week. Their commentary will test cloud demand, networking orders, and chip-equipment investment across Nvidia's ecosystem. CoreWeave's results, due Monday, are particularly relevant given its GPU-heavy business model.

Nvidia's valuation multiple expanded to 24.9 times fiscal-2027 earnings, up from 22.3 times at the end of July, using the current consensus as a constant denominator. This expansion almost point-for-point with the stock price underscores that investors are paying a premium for future growth.

Risks remain: Nvidia now carries a higher multiple without a matching near-term estimate reset. Hot inflation, rising yields, customer spending delays, export restrictions, or weak guidance on August 26 could reverse part of the weekly gain. The next company-specific checkpoint comes August 26 at 14:00 PT, when Nvidia reports fiscal second-quarter results. Until then, investors are trading on evidence of future demand, while earnings estimates have yet to catch up.
