Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) witnessed a significant premarket rally on Thursday, with shares climbing 10.99% to $228.63, following the release of its fiscal second-quarter earnings report that exceeded analyst expectations. The surge added approximately $18.5 billion to the company's market capitalization, underscoring investor enthusiasm for its artificial intelligence initiatives.

Revenue and AI Momentum

The cloud software giant reported quarterly revenue of $11.35 billion, an 11% increase year-over-year. Subscription and support revenue, the company's core business, totaled $10.8 billion. More notably, the annual recurring revenue (ARR) from its AI and data products—Agentforce and Data 360—approached $3.9 billion, a staggering 210% increase from the prior year.

Agentforce, Salesforce's AI agent platform, achieved an ARR surpassing $1.5 billion, up more than 240% annually. The company processed 3.2 billion agentic work units during the quarter, signaling strong adoption of its AI-driven solutions.

Guidance and Financial Metrics

Salesforce raised its revenue guidance for fiscal 2027 by $200 million, now projecting between $46.1 billion and $46.4 billion. However, the breakdown reveals that $100 million of this increase stems from organic growth, while an additional $200 million is attributed to the planned acquisitions of Contentful and Fin. Exchange rate fluctuations are expected to have a $100 million negative impact.

Current remaining performance obligations (RPO), a key indicator of future contracted revenue, rose 14% to $33.5 billion, reflecting robust demand. The faster growth of this metric compared to the modest guidance adjustment is viewed positively by analysts.

Profitability and Cash Flow

The company reported adjusted earnings of $5.90 per share, but this figure includes $2.53 per share from strategic investments. Share repurchases reduced the diluted share count by approximately 15%, amplifying per-share metrics. On a GAAP basis, operating margin declined 230 basis points to 20.5%, while the company maintained its adjusted margin guidance of 34.3%.

Free cash flow showed strong improvement, growing 81% to $1.10 billion, indicating robust cash generation capabilities.

Product Innovations and Analyst Sentiment

Salesforce also unveiled Claudeforce, a new offering leveraging Anthropic's Claude AI models. Rebecca Wettemann, a noted analyst, highlighted the introduction of "more prepackaged, easier-to-deploy AI agents," which are designed to reduce deployment times and accelerate consumption-based revenue growth.

Wall Street remains optimistic, with a consensus Buy rating from 53 analysts and an average price target of $242.64, implying a potential 6% upside from the premarket price.

Risks and Outlook

Despite the positive momentum, some risks persist. The majority of the guidance raise is acquisition-driven, license revenue continues to show volatility, and there is a possibility that AI adoption could cannibalize traditional seat-based subscriptions faster than new demand expands.

Investors will be watching Thursday's regular trading session to see if the premarket surge holds. Key upcoming catalysts include the closure of the Contentful and Fin acquisitions and the October buyback settlement.
