Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) experienced a significant post-market rally on Wednesday, with shares climbing 12.73% to $231.80 in after-hours trading. The surge followed the release of the company's fiscal second-quarter earnings, which underscored the strength of its artificial intelligence-driven growth strategy. The stock's jump added approximately $22.8 billion to the company's market capitalization, based on its closing value of $205.62 and the subsequent after-hours move.

The market's enthusiastic response was largely fueled by the performance of Salesforce's AI-related offerings. Agentforce and Data 360, two key AI platforms, reported annual recurring revenue (ARR) of nearly $3.9 billion, a more than threefold increase compared to the previous year. This figure is seen as a direct indicator of AI adoption translating into signed revenue, addressing concerns that AI agents might simply replace traditional software licenses.

Investors also reacted positively to the company's updated guidance. Salesforce raised the midpoint of its fiscal-2027 revenue projection by $200 million to a range of $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion. Additionally, the adjusted earnings per share (EPS) outlook was lifted to $16.67–$16.71, up from the previous $14.06–$14.12 range, representing an 18.5% increase at the midpoint.

The fiscal second-quarter results showed revenue of $11.35 billion, an 11% year-over-year increase and slightly ahead of consensus estimates. Adjusted EPS came in at $5.90, but this figure included gains from strategic investments. Excluding those gains, adjusted EPS was $3.37, still beating the consensus estimate of $3.27 by 3.1%.

Management's guidance for the third quarter calls for revenue between $11.42 billion and $11.50 billion, with adjusted EPS expected at $3.42 to $3.44. These projections indicate continued double-digit growth and more stable earnings performance. Remaining performance obligations stood at approximately $33.5 billion, slightly exceeding expectations, and CFO Robin Washington noted that net-new annual order growth reached its highest point in four years.

The after-hours rally pushed Salesforce's implied market capitalization to roughly $201.9 billion, or about 4.7 times its trailing twelve-month revenue of $42.83 billion. Despite the surge, the stock remains nearly 12% below its level at the start of the year, reflecting the broader challenges faced by the tech sector in 2026.

Wall Street analysts have responded with cautious optimism. Of the 18 analysts surveyed ahead of the earnings release, 12 recommended buying, five held neutral ratings, and one suggested selling. The average price target stands at $243.98, implying a 5.3% upside from the after-hours price. On August 25, Citizens reaffirmed its Market Outperform rating with a price target of $315, suggesting a potential 35.9% gain.

However, risks remain. The investment gains that boosted headline EPS could unwind, and recent acquisitions, including Informatica, may obscure organic growth metrics. Agentforce rollouts have shown variability across customers, which could impact future adoption rates. Investors will be closely watching the earnings call scheduled for 17:00 EDT, focusing on Agentforce bookings, organic cRPO growth, free cash flow guidance, and assumptions regarding acquisitions. These factors will be critical in determining whether the $22.8 billion revaluation is sustainable.
