New York, September 5, 2026 – Despite XRP's recovery to $1.42, U.S. spot-based XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are experiencing a notable discrepancy between their cumulative net inflows and current asset holdings. Data from SoSoValue, as reproduced by CryptoTuts, reveals that these funds now manage approximately $1.48 billion in assets, which is roughly $210 million less than the total net inflows they have received since inception. This gap underscores the impact of market price movements on fund valuations, even as investor interest remains robust.
Last week alone, these funds attracted $18.96 million in net inflows, contributing to a cumulative net inflow of about $1.69 billion. The persistence of inflows, despite XRP's price staying near $1.40, signals that capital continues to flow into regulated investment vehicles, providing a cushion for sellers while the digital asset's price determines overall portfolio performance.
Price Action and Flow Dynamics
XRP's trading path has been volatile. On Kraken, the 4 p.m. reference price fell to $1.3508 on Wednesday, only to spike to $1.4712 on Thursday before surrendering most of those gains. The fund flow data mirrored this volatility: an 11-session inflow streak was broken on Wednesday with a $7.2 million outflow, followed by a $6.14 million recovery on Thursday and no net movement on Friday. The five-session net result was a positive $18.96 million.
Bitwise research analyst Ryan Rasmussen noted that XRP was “the most asked about throughout the presentation” to roughly 400 wealth managers, indicating significant institutional curiosity. However, a poll during the presentation showed that about 67% of attendees currently hold no crypto allocation, suggesting that interest has yet to translate into widespread adoption.
The 0 Million Gap Explained
The arithmetic difference between cumulative net inflows ($1.69 billion) and current AUM ($1.48 billion) is approximately $210 million, representing 12.4% of total inflows. This gap is not a fund-level accounting loss but rather a reflection of the timing of inflows relative to price fluctuations. Flows arrive at different prices, while AUM is marked to market daily, including redemptions and fees. It cannot assign a return to any individual buyer.
Bitwise's own filing illustrates this mechanism: its XRP fund recorded $269.9 million in creation-related additions during the first half, with redemptions of $34.3 million, according to an Aug. 12 SEC filing. Despite these inflows, the fund reported an operational loss of $176.6 million during that period, as XRP fell from $1.82 on Dec. 31 to $1.04 on June 30. The fund ended June with 286.8 million XRP and $299.1 million in net assets.
Holiday Weekend and Future Outlook
U.S. fund shares stopped trading Friday and will remain closed Monday for Labor Day, while XRP trades around the clock. This timing gap could create discrepancies when funds reopen Tuesday, especially if the token experiences sharp moves over the weekend. Investors cannot use the exchange-traded wrappers during this period, potentially leading to pricing gaps.
The central risk remains XRP's inherent volatility. Single-asset products also charge fees and can trade away from net asset value (NAV). The 21Shares XRP fund, which reported $154.6 million in assets on Friday with a NAV of $13.65, cautions that investors could lose their entire investment.
Tuesday offers a clean test of demand: holding above Friday's $1.4002 reference price while creations resume would strengthen the case for sustained institutional interest. Conversely, a break below Wednesday's $1.3508 mark could signal that fund buying is merely absorbing seller pressure rather than driving new momentum.
