On Wednesday, Anthropic launched Claude for Small Business, a new offering that integrates its Claude AI assistant with popular business applications including Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365. The tool is designed to handle payroll planning, monthly book closures, invoice follow-ups, and sales campaign management for smaller companies.
This move comes as AI companies increasingly target not just large enterprises but also the vast small-business sector. According to the Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy, the U.S. had 36.2 million small businesses in 2026, employing 62.3 million people—45.9% of all private-sector jobs—and contributing 43.5% to GDP.
Anthropic is rolling out Claude for Small Business through Claude Cowork, its AI agent hub that automates multi-step tasks across workplace applications with user approval. The key feature is a new plugin for Claude Cowork, available to Claude subscribers already using Cowork, as reported by Inc.
The product comes with 15 pre-configured agentic workflows and 15 plug-and-play skills covering finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service. These workflows, highlighted by Fast Company, include payroll planning, month-end closing, business monitoring, campaign management, cash-flow forecasting, invoice chasing, contract review, and lead triaging.
Lina Ochman, head of U.S. small and medium businesses at Anthropic, told Fast Company that earlier AI software wasn't designed with smaller companies in mind. “No one has really shown up with something designed for how small businesses actually work,” she said.
Anthropic says users can link their existing apps, select a task, and approve the plan before any action is taken. App permissions remain intact, so if an employee can't access a file in QuickBooks or Google Drive, Claude won't be able to either.
Canva is promoting the launch as a way to convert campaign briefs directly into editable marketing materials within a single workflow. “A lot of owners get stuck at the AI draft stage,” said Anwar Haneef, Canva’s general manager and head of ecosystem. The partnership aims to move beyond drafts to publish-ready content, as noted by Business Wire.
PayPal has also partnered with Anthropic to launch AI Fluency for Small Business, a free online program offering nine lessons and completion certificates. “Harness the full potential of the AI-led economy,” said Amy Bonitatibus, PayPal’s chief corporate affairs officer, describing the goal for business owners, per the PayPal Newsroom.
Starting Thursday in Chicago, Anthropic will host a spring tour of free half-day workshops for groups of 100 local business leaders. Stops include Tulsa, Dallas, Hamilton Township, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Salt Lake City, Baltimore, San Jose, and Indianapolis. Attendees will receive a free month of Claude Max.
The competitive landscape is crowded: OpenAI pitches ChatGPT Business to small and midsize teams with integration into 60-plus apps, Microsoft promotes Microsoft 365 Copilot for SMBs, and Google offers Gemini in Google Workspace. However, small businesses face hurdles such as tight budgets, limited time, and data security concerns. Anthropic’s survey found that half of owners cited data security as their top concern. Claude for Small Business is available immediately through Claude Cowork, and the question remains whether it will become a backbone for managing books, sales, and marketing or just another AI tool in a crowded market.
