Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE: ACHR) closed Friday's trading session at $6.30, marking a 3.45% gain for the day. However, the stock's weekly performance tells a more sobering story, with shares down 4.83% over the five-day period. The modest Friday rebound only partially recovered the previous session's steep decline.

More notably, the stock's current price sits just 0.64% above its closing level on August 10, the day before the company announced a strategic partnership with Boeing (NYSE: BA). This suggests that the initial market enthusiasm surrounding the deal has largely dissipated, leaving investors to focus on the company's underlying financial health and execution risks.

Data from StockAnalysis shows that Friday's $0.21 gain offset 58% of Thursday's $0.36 drop. Trading volume on Friday reached 31.1 million shares, approximately 27% below the stock's average daily volume, indicating a lack of strong conviction among buyers.

Vendor Share Filing Adds Uncertainty

A regulatory filing on August 18 revealed that 8,261,273 Class A shares have been allocated to vendors for potential resale. This registration does not obligate vendors to sell, and Archer will not receive any proceeds from such sales. Still, the filing introduces an overhang of potential supply that could pressure the stock in the near term.

The company's financial trajectory remains demanding. In the second quarter, Archer reported revenue of $5.0 million, while its net loss expanded to $263.2 million. Cash and short-term investments fell to $1.56 billion, down $215.3 million from the previous quarter. At this burn rate, the company's liquidity would last approximately seven quarters, though this is a simplified run-rate estimate that does not account for potential changes in working capital or future financing activities.

Boeing Deal: A Strategic Pivot

The Boeing agreement brings Archer a defense business with meaningful revenue. Insitu, the acquired unit, generates annual revenues exceeding $200 million, according to initial financial data and company projections. Boeing is set to receive 19.75% of Archer's Class A stock upon closing, which is expected by year-end, subject to antitrust and other approvals.

Archer's market capitalization stands at $4.85 billion, roughly 24 times its reported revenue. This elevated valuation multiple underscores the high expectations investors have placed on the company's ability to execute beyond Insitu's current sales figures.

CEO Adam Goldstein characterized the quarter as “an important inflection point for Archer.” The deal is anticipated to close by the end of the year, pending regulatory clearance and other customary conditions.

Wall Street Sentiment Remains Cautiously Optimistic

Analyst consensus remains a Buy, with nine analysts covering the stock. The average price target is $10.61, implying a potential upside of 68% from current levels. However, targets vary widely, ranging from $4.50 to $18.00, reflecting significant uncertainty about the company's future performance.

Recent analyst actions include Cantor Fitzgerald's Andres Sheppard reiterating a Buy with an $11 target on August 17, while Goldman Sachs' Noah Poponak maintained a Hold with an $8 target on the same day. Canaccord Genuity's Austin Moeller set a $12 target on August 12, and Needham's Chris Pierce assigned a $9 target on August 11.

Looking Ahead

Investors will be watching for any trading impact from the vendor-share supply, as well as regulatory updates on the Boeing deal and progress on the certification of Archer's Midnight aircraft. A delay in certification, wider-than-expected losses, or further dilution could weigh on the stock. Conversely, accelerating defense revenue, successful deal closure, or additional operating approvals could provide a boost.
