UiPath Inc. (NYSE:PATH) shares edged higher on Thursday as the market digested the launch of its new orchestration tool for coding agents, a product the company hopes will broaden its developer appeal. At 14:59 EDT, the stock was up 0.8% to $15.90, with trading volume reaching 53.9 million shares, placing it among the most actively traded U.S. equities on the day.
The uptick follows Wednesday's release of UiPath Maestro Flow, a platform that allows developers to design, manage, and monitor business processes directly within coding environments. The tool supports popular coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and Codex, positioning UiPath at the intersection of automation and the rapidly expanding AI developer ecosystem.
Chief Product and Technology Officer Raghu Malpani framed the offering as a response to a market need beyond simple agent deployment. "Enterprises face an orchestration problem rather than an agent problem," he said. The product is commercially available, but UiPath has not disclosed pricing, bookings targets, or revenue forecasts specific to Maestro Flow, leaving investors to gauge its financial impact through the company's broader results.
Valuation Gap Widens
The market's enthusiasm has pushed UiPath's share price well above the expectations of Wall Street. The consensus price target from 20 analysts stands at $13.44, which is 15.5% below Thursday's close. In other words, the stock is trading 18.3% above the average target. Given the company's current market capitalization of $8.24 billion, a move to the consensus target would erase approximately $1.27 billion in market value.
This valuation premium amplifies the importance of the upcoming quarterly report. UiPath is scheduled to release its fiscal second-quarter 2027 results on September 3, after the market close. The company has guided for revenue between $395 million and $400 million, with annual recurring revenue (ARR) expected to land between $1.929 billion and $1.934 billion.
The midpoint of revenue guidance implies a year-over-year growth rate of 9.8%, a notable deceleration from the 17% growth reported in the previous quarter. ARR is projected to grow about 12.1% year over year, while non-GAAP operating income guidance suggests a 21% increase. These figures are derived from company-provided data and are not official projections.
First-Quarter Performance Provides Context
UiPath's first quarter of fiscal 2027 offered a solid foundation. Revenue climbed 17% year over year to $418 million, ARR grew 12% to $1.901 billion, and the company posted GAAP operating income of $28 million. CFO Ashim Gupta highlighted this as the company's first GAAP-profitable first quarter, a milestone that may reassure investors about the underlying business trajectory.
Despite the positive momentum, the stock's valuation relative to peers suggests market skepticism about sustained growth. UiPath trades at 19.1 times forward earnings, below ServiceNow (NYSE:NOW) at 28.1 times and Appian (NASDAQ:APPN) at 30.0 times, but above Pegasystems (NASDAQ:PEGA) at 13.1 times. On a price-to-revenue basis, UiPath's multiple of 4.9 times places it among smaller automation competitors.
Analyst Sentiment Remains Cautious
The analyst community shows limited conviction in UiPath's near-term upside. The consensus breakdown includes two Strong Buy ratings, one Buy, sixteen Holds, and one Sell. Recent target changes reflect a cautious tone. RBC Capital (NYSE:RY) raised its target from $12 to $15 on August 14 while maintaining a Hold rating. Bank of America Securities (NYSE:BAC) kept a Sell rating with a $13 target on July 22. UBS (NYSE:UBS) cut its target from $13 to $12 on June 29, and Needham reiterated a Buy with a $15 target on June 12.
The upcoming earnings report will be pivotal. Investors will be looking for evidence that Maestro Flow can convert product interest into new contracts and that the company can exceed its revenue guidance or demonstrate an acceleration in ARR growth. If the company falls short, the premium over analyst targets could quickly evaporate.
Risks remain, including potential competitive pressure from ServiceNow and major cloud providers, as well as the possibility of lower-than-expected net revenue retention. The September 3 report will provide the clearest signal yet on whether UiPath's expanded product portfolio can justify the market's current optimism.
