Shares of CXMT Corporation (SHA:688825) closed Wednesday at ¥57.55, down 2.77% on the day, but the stock remains 7.5% above its August 12 close of ¥53.52. The DRAM manufacturer's headline valuation stands at a staggering $586.44 billion, yet only a sliver of its equity—6.73% of total shares—is available for public trading. This disparity is a key risk factor for investors, as a limited float can amplify price swings in both directions.

The Shanghai-listed company has a total of 66.88 billion shares outstanding, but only 4.50 billion began trading on July 27. As of Wednesday's close, the tradable float was valued at ¥259.15 billion, a fraction of the company's total market capitalization of ¥3.85 trillion. The stock has surged 564.5% from its IPO price of ¥8.66, a meteoric rise that has drawn both excitement and caution.

Valuation Concerns and Analyst Views

With such a small float, price discovery may be less robust, and liquidity withdrawals could have outsized effects. Reuters noted that the 6.73% tradable share ratio is a significant factor in the stock's volatility. Despite these concerns, analysts remain cautiously optimistic. The average price target from five analysts is ¥63.36, implying a 10.1% premium to the latest close. However, targets vary widely, from a low of ¥16.10 to a high of ¥116, reflecting uncertainty about the company's growth trajectory.

Nomura is particularly bullish, forecasting that CXMT will capture 18% of the global DRAM market by 2028, up from its current 7.7% share. The firm projects monthly wafer production will nearly double from 280,000 units at the end of 2025 to 550,000 by the end of 2028. That outlook supports Nomura's ¥116 price target, the highest among analysts.

Financial Performance and Market Position

CXMT's financials are impressive. The company reported 2025 revenue of ¥61.80 billion, and first-quarter 2026 revenue surged to ¥50.80 billion, a 719.1% year-over-year increase. Net profit for Q1 2026 was ¥33.01 billion. Management projects first-half revenue of ¥110 billion to ¥120 billion and net profit of ¥66 billion to ¥75 billion. Based on the midpoint of these ranges, the stock trades at a preliminary annualized P/E of 27.3 times and a sales multiple of 16.7 times.

These multiples are higher than those of its larger rivals. Samsung Electronics (OTC: SSNLF) trades at a P/E of 11.01, Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) at 20.73, and SK Hynix (OTC: HXSCL) at 6.59. CXMT's premium valuation reflects expectations of rapid market share gains and sustained strong DRAM pricing, but it also leaves little room for error.

Risks and Outlook

CXMT ranks as the world's fourth-largest DRAM supplier, trailing Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. The company's growth plans include significant capacity expansions, which could more than double current production if carried out. However, these plans face hurdles, including potential export restrictions on advanced equipment and intense competition in high-bandwidth memory, where the top three players dominate.

President Mark Cao acknowledged the cyclical nature of the DRAM market, stating, "The DRAM market, characterized by price fluctuations and intense competition as a commodity, faces mounting uncertainties on a global scale." Investors will be watching to see if CXMT can maintain its momentum above the August 12 close and whether funding for expansion materializes.

For now, the stock's valuation remains a topic of debate. The small float could continue to fuel volatility, and any shift in DRAM pricing or sentiment could trigger sharp moves. As the market digests CXMT's rapid rise, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the stock can justify its lofty price tag.
