Key Tronic Corporation (NASDAQ: KTCC) experienced a sharp decline in premarket trading on Friday, with shares dropping 21% to $3.04. The move comes as the company disclosed that approximately $10 million in quarterly shipments were postponed due to supply-chain financing limitations, raising concerns about near-term liquidity.

The premarket selloff, which saw trading volume of roughly 216,000 shares compared to a daily average of 34,860, underscores investor anxiety over the company's balance sheet. The delayed shipments represent nearly 10% of quarterly revenue and about 24% of Key Tronic's $42.1 million market capitalization, amplifying the impact of the news.

Financial Results and Operational Highlights

Despite the liquidity challenges, Key Tronic reported a 14% sequential increase in revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter, reaching $102.0 million. The growth was driven by a more than twofold expansion in output from its Vietnam operations, supported by new programs in medical devices and consumer products.

However, the company recorded a GAAP net loss of $34.3 million, compared to a loss of $3.9 million in the same period last year. The loss included a $28.4 million deferred-tax valuation allowance, a non-cash charge that had no impact on cash flow or existing debt covenants. Additionally, a receivables write-off of $8.4 million weighed on earnings, though a $5.3 million insurance recovery partially offset the cost.

Margin Improvements and Strategic Moves

Excluding these one-time items, core factory economics showed improvement. Adjusted gross margin climbed to 8.3%, up from 6.2% a year ago, reflecting operational efficiencies and a favorable product mix. Management also finalized its exit from manufacturing operations in China during the quarter, a move expected to generate approximately $4 million in savings in fiscal 2027.

The company secured new program awards exceeding $60 million across data centers, construction, and industrial power sectors. CEO Brett Larsen highlighted a growing backlog and reiterated expectations of reaching profitability in fiscal 2027, though he refrained from providing first-quarter guidance due to ongoing macroeconomic challenges and uncertain ramp-up timing.

Market Reaction and Outlook

The market's reaction suggests that investors are more focused on the balance-sheet constraint than on the margin recovery. Key Tronic is exploring additional funding options, which could lead to potential dilution, stricter supplier credit terms, or delays in program ramps—risks that may outweigh the benefits of cost reductions.

Friday's regular trading session will be crucial in determining whether the stock can stabilize. The company's ability to address its liquidity situation and execute on its strategic initiatives will be key factors for investors to monitor in the coming quarters.
