Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ:PLTR) closed Friday at $172.01, capping a remarkable 39.8% weekly gain—its strongest since November 2024. The surge, accompanied by trading volume 1.78 times its 65-day average, pushed the company's market capitalization to approximately $441.8 billion. That places the stock at 54.2 times the midpoint of its 2026 revenue guidance, a valuation that leaves little room for error.
US Dominance Drives Growth, But Raises Risks
The company's second-quarter results, reported earlier in the week, showed revenue of $1.935 billion, a 92.8% year-over-year increase. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.41, beating analyst estimates of $0.35. However, the regional breakdown reveals a heavy concentration: US clients contributed 81.3% of total revenue and 90.2% of the year-over-year dollar growth. US revenue surged 114.7% to $1.573 billion, while rest-of-world revenue grew a still-solid 33.7% to $362 million.
This geographic skew amplifies the valuation challenge. Roughly 90 cents of every additional revenue dollar now comes from US customers, making the stock highly sensitive to domestic demand trends and government procurement cycles. Analysts note that while the US expansion is impressive, overseas growth has yet to provide the diversification needed to support such a lofty multiple.
Guidance Raised, But Bar Set High
Palantir raised its full-year 2026 revenue outlook by approximately $498 million at the midpoint, now guiding to $8.154 billion—6.5% above its previous midpoint and 8.1% above the analyst consensus of $2.000 billion for the third quarter. US commercial revenue is projected to exceed $3.424 billion, representing growth of at least 134%. The company also reported strong bookings, with US commercial total contract value up 153% and remaining deal value at $6.238 billion. Remaining performance obligations stood at $4.9 billion, with 43% expected to be recognized in the next 12 months.
CEO Alex Karp remarked, "Demand for AI sovereignty has now been unleashed." Adjusted operating margin came in at 62%, underscoring the company's profitability even as it scales.
Mixed Analyst Sentiment
Wall Street remains cautiously optimistic, but opinions are divided. The consensus rating is Overweight, yet 12 of 35 analysts have Hold or Sell ratings. The median price target of $203 implies an 18% upside from Friday's close, though the range spans $80 to $255, reflecting wide disagreement on valuation.
Market Context and Upcoming Catalysts
The stock's surge comes amid a broader AI-driven rally, with the Nasdaq Composite up 5.2% and the S&P 500 up 3.6% over the same period. Palantir outperformed both by more than 34 percentage points. Investors now look to this week's CPI, PPI, and retail sales data for signs of inflation and consumer strength, which could influence high-multiple growth stocks.
Risks and Challenges Ahead
Several client agreements allow for termination at will, adding uncertainty. The heavy US focus also increases vulnerability to shifts in government spending and domestic economic cycles. To justify its current valuation, Palantir must sustain near-triple-digit US growth—a difficult feat, but one that the market is betting on.
With the next earnings report scheduled for November 9, all eyes will be on whether the company can continue to deliver on its elevated expectations.
