Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) is set to release its second-quarter financial results after the market closes on Monday, a moment that carries significant weight for a company whose valuation has reached approximately $316 billion. With options markets implying a potential post-earnings move of up to 10%, the stakes are particularly high.

Wall Street consensus expects Palantir to report revenue of $1.812 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $0.34 for the quarter. The earnings webcast is scheduled for 5 p.m. EDT. A 10% swing in the stock price would equate to a change in market capitalization of roughly $31.6 billion—a figure that is about four times the company's full-year 2026 revenue guidance midpoint of $7.656 billion.

The bar for the upcoming report appears modest at first glance. The initial revenue consensus is only 0.7% above management's own midpoint forecast of $1.799 billion for the second quarter. However, even hitting that projection would represent a deceleration in growth, with revenue expected to rise 80.5% year-over-year, compared to an 85% gain in the prior quarter.

To maintain the growth rate seen in the first quarter, Palantir would need to achieve revenue of approximately $1.857 billion, which is $45 million higher than the current consensus. The bigger challenge lies in U.S. commercial sales, where early projections indicate a 134% increase, versus 72% growth in U.S. government revenue. This translates to an estimated sequential increase of $121 million in commercial revenue and $46 million in government revenue, with commercial transactions driving about 73% of the anticipated quarter-over-quarter U.S. rise.

Palantir has raised its annual guidance, now forecasting U.S. commercial revenue to exceed $3.224 billion in 2026. To meet this target, the company will need to generate nearly $1 billion in U.S. commercial revenue each quarter in the second half of the year. This puts the spotlight firmly on the third-quarter outlook, which may be more critical to investors than the actual earnings beat.

CEO Alex Karp has emphasized the strength of the U.S. business, stating after the first quarter that "The United States remains the center, the constant core, of our business. And that business is erupting." The company's profitability provides flexibility, with the Q2 outlook pointing to a 59.2% adjusted operating margin, close to Q1's 60%. Palantir also ended March with $8 billion in cash and Treasuries, and adjusted free cash flow totaled $925 million.

Despite these fundamentals, Palantir shares did not participate in last week's software rally. While Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW), Datadog Inc. (NASDAQ:DDOG), and Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM) all rose over 8%, Palantir gained just 0.1%. This divergence suggests investors view Palantir's earnings uncertainty as distinct from the broader recovery in software stocks.

Analyst sentiment remains mixed, with 19 buy ratings, three overweight ratings, 11 holds, and two sells. Price targets range widely from $70 to $255, with a median target of $200. The current valuation offers limited cushion if growth decelerates, and there are additional risks, including a dispute over a London police contract that was blocked by authorities.

The week ahead is packed with economic data, including U.S. jobs figures on Friday, which are forecast to show 83,000 new jobs and an unemployment rate of 4.3%. Stronger-than-expected data could fuel expectations for higher interest rates, potentially weighing on expensive software stocks. For Palantir, Monday's report will be the first test of whether its growth story can justify its premium valuation.
