Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) saw its shares climb sharply in premarket trading on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, after the data analytics company reported a blockbuster second quarter and lifted its full-year revenue guidance. The stock was indicated at $144.74, representing a 15.2% increase from Monday's close of $125.65.
U.S. Expansion Drives Growth
The surge was fueled by exceptionally strong performance in the U.S. market, which accounted for nearly 90% of the company's year-over-year revenue increase. According to segment disclosures, U.S. revenue climbed by approximately $840 million, while international revenue added just $92 million. The U.S. now represents 81.3% of total quarterly sales.
Specifically, U.S. commercial revenue jumped 149% to $764 million, and U.S. government revenue rose 90% to $809 million. This robust growth underscores the company's success in expanding its footprint across both enterprise and public sector clients.
Quarterly Results Beat Expectations
For the second quarter, Palantir reported revenue of $1.935 billion, surpassing consensus estimates by 6.85%. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.41, beating forecasts by 18.27%. Revenue growth accelerated to 93% year-over-year, up from an implied 81% growth rate in the prior year period.
The company's adjusted operating margin expanded to 62%, compared to 46% in the same quarter last year. On a GAAP basis, operating margin improved to 47% from 27%. Adjusted operating income more than doubled to $1.194 billion.
CEO Alex Karp described the quarter as "otherworldly," highlighting the company's ability to convert its AI-driven platform into tangible financial results.
Guidance Raised
Management raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to a range of $8.150 billion to $8.158 billion, up from a previous midpoint of $7.656 billion. This implies an increase of approximately $498 million at the midpoint. The company also raised its U.S. commercial revenue baseline to more than $3.424 billion, an increase of at least $200 million.
For the third quarter, Palantir expects revenue between $2.160 billion and $2.164 billion, which is roughly 8.1% higher than the LSEG consensus of $2.00 billion. This suggests sequential growth of about 11.7% from Q2.
Cash Flow and Bookings Strong
Adjusted free cash flow totaled $1.220 billion, with the margin rising to 63%. Stock-based compensation increased 66% to $265 million, but as a percentage of sales, it declined to 13.7% from 15.9%, indicating improved efficiency.
Bookings also painted a positive picture. The value of U.S. commercial contracts surged 153% to $2.132 billion, and remaining deal value reached $6.238 billion. The company secured 73 contracts each worth at least $10 million.
Valuation Concerns Persist
Despite the strong fundamentals, the premarket rally has pushed Palantir's valuation to approximately 42.6 times projected 2026 sales, up from 36.9 times at Monday's close. This high multiple leaves little room for error if U.S. demand were to decelerate.
International revenue growth was more modest at 34%, and the company faces challenges including the loss of a French intelligence contract and a legal dispute over a London police agreement. Additionally, many contracts contain termination rights that customers could exercise.
Analysts, however, see Palantir as a clear leader in enterprise AI. Jacob Bourne of eMarketer called it "the clearest counterexample" to arguments that AI applications cannot scale beyond pilot projects.
As trading begins, the market will watch whether the stock can sustain its gains and whether the company can meet its ambitious Q3 targets.
