U.S. index futures were trading higher ahead of Friday's open, but the spotlight remained on Hyperliquid Strategies Inc. (NASDAQ: PURR) after a dramatic midweek rally. The company's stock surged 30.42% on Wednesday, following comments from President Donald Trump that suggested a potential U.S. regulatory approval for the firm's operations. The jump added approximately $439 million to PURR's market valuation, which closed at $1.883 billion, according to Yahoo Finance.
The rally was driven by Trump's remarks during a White House meeting with cryptocurrency executives. He stated that Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair Michael Selig is working to “bring Hyperliquid into the U.S. in a fully compliant and legal fashion.” The statement was reported by The Wall Street Journal and ignited investor optimism about the company's future within a regulated framework.
The surge in PURR's stock price was accompanied by a more modest gain in its primary treasury asset, HYPE. The HYPE token rose nearly 17% to $73, boosting the value of the company's 29.3 million token holdings by about $311 million. This left a gap of approximately $128 million between the total market cap increase and the token appreciation, which analysts interpret as an initial premium investors are paying for the potential U.S. policy access.
This premium reflects the market's assessment of the value of a regulatory green light, beyond the inherent beta to HYPE's price movements. The breakdown is clear: PURR's market value went from roughly $1.444 billion to $1.883 billion, while the HYPE treasury climbed from near $1.828 billion to $2.139 billion. The difference, about $128 million, represents what investors are willing to pay for the wrapper that could facilitate U.S. compliance.
On Thursday, PURR continued its upward trajectory, gaining 7.35% to reach $10.08, while HYPE advanced 0.44% to $73.96. The company's dashboard showed 29.4 million tokens in circulation and a market capitalization of approximately $2.12 billion early Friday. The narrowing gap between PURR's performance and HYPE's suggests that the premium may be stabilizing as the market digests the news.
PURR's portfolio is heavily concentrated in digital assets. According to its July 15 registration statement, the firm held roughly 29.3 million HYPE tokens, identifying itself as the largest public holder in the U.S. The treasury also generates income through staking, with $2.63 million in staking revenue reported for the quarter ended March 31. Net income for that period reached $152.5 million, largely driven by an unrealized gain of $198.4 million on HYPE.
However, earnings are intentionally volatile. An increase in HYPE's price can boost reported profits without generating cash, but a decline can erase those gains quickly. This inherent volatility is a key risk for investors. The $128 million premium is an early estimate and could fluctuate based on share counts and pricing timing. Additionally, the company faces potential dilution, staking requirements, and the risk of regulatory delays.
Analysts are divided on the appropriate valuation for this premium. Cantor Fitzgerald's Gareth Gacetta has an Overweight rating with a price target of $18.40, implying 96% upside from Wednesday's close. In contrast, Chardan's James McIlree has a Buy rating with a $9.75 target, just 3.8% above the current price, and Maxim Group's Matthew Galinko has a Buy with a $10.00 target, offering 6.5% upside. The consensus is Strong Buy with an average target of $13.05, suggesting 39% upside.
The next step for PURR is execution. Under Selig's leadership, the CFTC has been advancing an initiative focused on clearer regulations and fostering domestic innovation. However, investors are seeking a specific timeline, a defined licensing process, and clarity on the range of products that would be permitted. The market's reaction on Friday will be telling: if PURR maintains its premium while HYPE stalls, investors are assigning significant value to policy access. If both decline together, token beta remains the dominant influence.
