Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) experienced a significant stock surge on Friday, with shares climbing 13.63% to $108.06 by 10:04 EDT. This rally added approximately $11.7 billion to the company's market capitalization, reflecting a surge in investor enthusiasm for the platform's tokenization initiatives, even as its cryptocurrency revenue continues to decline.

The stock's performance outpaced Bitcoin, which rose 7.18% during the same period. Robinhood's share gain was nearly 1.9 times that of Bitcoin, and the company outperformed Coinbase Global (NASDAQ: COIN) by about four percentage points. The new market capitalization is now roughly nine times Robinhood's total second-quarter revenue.

Revenue Diversification

While the tokenization narrative drives the stock, the company's fundamentals show a business that is increasingly less reliant on crypto trading. In the second quarter of 2026, crypto revenue fell 38% year-over-year to $100 million, representing just 7.6% of total revenue. In contrast, net interest income and options trading contributed more than half of the company's revenue, with net interest at $389 million (up 9%) and options at $342 million (up 29%).

Other revenue streams also showed strong growth. Event contracts surged more than tenfold to $156 million, equities revenue jumped 95% to $129 million, and other revenue increased 54% to $143 million. Overall, total revenue grew 32% to $1.31 billion, with net income up 48% to $573 million and adjusted EBITDA at $741 million, representing a 57% adjusted margin.

User Growth and Tokenization Ambitions

Robinhood's customer base continues to expand, with funded accounts up 7% to 28.4 million. Platform assets grew 32% to $369 billion, and Gold subscribers increased 39% to 4.8 million. CEO Vlad Tenev emphasized the company's focus on "making everyone an owner," with 13 business lines now generating over $100 million in annualized revenue each.

The tokenization push includes stock tokens, the Robinhood Chain, and decentralized finance offerings available to customers outside the U.S. Stock tokens are accessible in over 120 countries. Tenev described the current period as a "tokenization supercycle." On-chain equity volume reached $9 billion in 2026, up 800% year-to-date, though this remains less than 1% of Robinhood's $956 billion equity notional for the second quarter.

Regulatory and Market Context

Political developments are also supporting the stock. President Donald Trump called on Congress this week to advance crypto market legislation, and Tenev attended a White House gathering on the topic. However, the legislative timeline remains unclear, which could pose risks to the tokenization narrative.

Analysts remain largely bullish on Robinhood. The 28-analyst consensus is a Buy with a mean price target of $119.82, implying about 10.9% upside from Friday's close. Targets range from $57 to $163.60. Recent actions include DBS (Buy, $120), Barclays (Overweight, $105), Cantor Fitzgerald (Overweight, $115), and Goldman Sachs (Buy, $118).

The company repurchased $414 million worth of shares in the quarter at an average price of $94 each, leaving the stock 15% above that level, which may limit near-term accretion from buybacks.

Risks and Outlook

Key risks include a downturn in cryptocurrency markets that could dampen trading volumes and compress the valuation premium, as well as delays in U.S. legislative action, potential limitations on tokenization, or reduced retail participation.

Friday's rally reflects two narratives: the core business is growing independently of crypto, but the higher valuation hinges on tokenized assets becoming a significant second network. Investors are betting that Robinhood can capitalize on this emerging opportunity, even as its legacy crypto revenue continues to shrink.
