Salesforce Inc. (NYSE: CRM) experienced its most significant single-day gain in recent memory on Thursday, with shares closing at $252.05, a 22.6% surge that added roughly $38 billion to its market capitalization. The rally was fueled by accelerating contract growth and a notable uptick in cash generation, which investors interpreted as strong validation of the company's artificial intelligence strategy.

Trading volume reached 55.5 million shares, more than four times the recent average, indicating intense institutional interest. The stock's closing price now sits just 5.9% below the consensus 12-month target of $267 among Wall Street analysts, who maintain a largely bullish stance with 29 buy ratings, nine holds, and only one sell.

AI-Driven Revenue Momentum

Quarterly revenue climbed 11% to $11.35 billion, while current remaining performance obligations (cRPO) rose 14% to $33.5 billion, signaling a pickup in contracted demand. The standout metric was annual recurring revenue (ARR) for Agentforce and Data 360, which approached $3.9 billion—an increase of more than 210% year over year. Agentforce alone contributed over $1.5 billion to that total.

The company's cash conversion also improved markedly. Free cash flow surged 81% to $1.1 billion, and operating cash flow rose 71% to $1.3 billion. GAAP operating margin held at 20.5%, underscoring profitability despite heavy AI investments.

Guidance Raised, But With Caveats

Salesforce lifted its fiscal 2027 revenue forecast to a range of $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion. The $200 million increase comprises $100 million from organic growth and $200 million from pending acquisitions, partially offset by a $100 million negative impact from currency fluctuations. Management attributed the acquisition-related portion to the anticipated closings of Contentful and Fin in the third quarter.

Non-GAAP operating margin guidance was maintained at 34.3%, and the company left its operating and free cash flow growth targets unchanged at 4%–5%.

Strategic Partnerships and Analyst Outlook

During the quarter, Salesforce expanded its collaboration with Anthropic through Claudeforce, integrating Claude models into its data and workflow systems—a move that analysts believe strengthens its competitive position against rivals like Microsoft and ServiceNow.

Despite the upbeat sentiment, some analysts caution that the rally may have priced in near-term upside. The reliance on acquisitions for part of the guidance, along with investment gains boosting adjusted earnings, leaves questions about the sustainability of organic AI growth. Pricing strategies for AI workloads will be critical to converting usage into recurring revenue.

What to Watch Next

Investors will now focus on the third-quarter performance, with expectations of cRPO growth of 14%, revenue projected between $11.42 billion and $11.50 billion, and evidence that AI workloads are translating into durable recurring revenue. The coming months will test whether Salesforce can maintain this momentum and justify its elevated valuation.
