NEW YORK, July 21, 2026 – SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ:SOFI) saw its shares rise 1.6% to $17.29 in active afternoon trading on Tuesday, driven by the company’s 2026 financial projections that call for a significant margin expansion in the second half of the year. The fintech firm’s outlook hinges on achieving an adjusted net income margin of approximately 21% in H2, a key metric that investors are closely watching as the company prepares to report its second-quarter results.

According to initial estimates, SoFi’s adjusted net income margin for the second half must reach nearly 21% to meet its full-year target of roughly 18%. For the second quarter, the company has forecast an adjusted net income margin of 12% to 13%, implying a substantial ramp-up in profitability in the latter six months. The revenue requirement is relatively lighter: the quarterly run rate in H2 needs to grow about 11% compared to the first half. However, quarterly adjusted net income must surge by approximately 69% at the midpoint to hit the annual goal.

SoFi’s management has set a 2026 full-year target of $4.655 billion in adjusted net revenue and $825 million in adjusted net income, translating to an overall margin of roughly 18%. The first quarter delivered strong results, with adjusted revenue of $1.087 billion (up 41% year-over-year) and adjusted net income of $166.7 million, yielding a 15.3% margin. For Q2, initial guidance points to adjusted net revenue of approximately $1.116 billion and adjusted net income in the range of $133.9 million to $145.0 million, representing a 12%-13% margin. The second-half estimate calls for adjusted net revenue of about $2.452 billion and adjusted net income of $513.2 million to $524.4 million, with a margin of 20.9% to 21.4%.

The margin trajectory places the focus of the upcoming July 29 earnings test squarely on operational efficiency rather than pure loan growth. Investors are seeking evidence of lower unit costs, an improved business mix, and gains in operating leverage. SoFi is scheduled to release its Q2 results at approximately 7 a.m. EDT, followed by a conference call at 8 a.m.

At the current share price of $17.29, SoFi trades at roughly 29 times management’s adjusted EPS target of 60 cents for 2026. According to Google Finance, the trailing price-to-earnings ratio stands near 39. Wall Street sentiment remains mixed, with six buy ratings, eight holds, and three sell recommendations, and a consensus price target of $21.36.

First-quarter performance showed strength across key metrics: adjusted EBITDA climbed 62% to $339.9 million, member growth accelerated 35% to 14.7 million, and loan originations hit an all-time high of $12.2 billion. CEO Anthony Noto told Reuters that the consumer base “remains strong.” However, the company did not raise its full-year guidance following the Q1 beat, a move that William Blair analyst Andrew Jeffrey noted as “uncharacteristically did not flow through” the upside.

Risks persist. Technology Platform revenue declined 27% in Q1, and weaker demand for personal loans as well as headwinds in capital markets could hinder margin expansion. The upcoming report will serve as a critical bridge test: surpassing top-line expectations would be a positive signal, but demonstrating a believable trajectory toward 21% H2 margins is of greater importance for investor confidence.
