UiPath Inc. (NYSE: PATH) has seen its stock price climb sharply in recent weeks, with shares now trading well above the consensus analyst price target. The rally, fueled by strong first-quarter results and optimism around the company's agentic AI products, has pushed the stock to levels that some analysts believe are ahead of fundamentals.

As of Friday's close, UiPath shares were trading at $16.01, up 6.4% for the week and 25.5% higher than the closing price on July 31. The stock's surge has been particularly notable on Thursday, when it jumped 9.3% to $16.68 before giving back some gains on Friday. Trading volume on Friday was approximately 52.1 million shares, below the three-month daily average of 64.4 million.

The recent gains have pushed UiPath's stock to a premium relative to analyst expectations. The stock is currently trading 20.8% above the consensus price target of $13.25, and has also surpassed the most recent targets issued by UBS, BMO Capital, DA Davidson, and Bank of America. These targets range from $12 to $13, implying a potential downside of 19% to 25% from Friday's close.

The rally has been broad-based, with UiPath outperforming both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite over the past week. The company's shares also outpaced the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV), which rose 1.4% during the same period.

The positive momentum is supported by the company's first-quarter results, which showed revenue climbing 17% to $418 million, with annual recurring revenue (ARR) up 12% to $1.901 billion. GAAP operating income totaled $28 million, reflecting improved profitability. CEO Daniel Dines highlighted that the company's "agentic products are moving from pilot to production," with net new ARR of $49 million, up from $27 million in the prior year.

However, the company's outlook for the second quarter presents a more cautious picture. UiPath projects Q2 revenue in the range of $395 million to $400 million, with a midpoint of $397.5 million, representing a 4.9% sequential decline but a 9.8% increase year-over-year. The company also expects Q2 ARR to grow to approximately $1.932 billion, up 1.6% sequentially, while non-GAAP operating income is projected to decline 18.5% sequentially to $75 million.

Wall Street sentiment remains cautious, with the consensus rating at Neutral. Analysts' price targets suggest a potential pullback from current levels, reflecting concerns about the sustainability of the rally given the sequential revenue decline and competitive pressures from Microsoft (MSFT), ServiceNow (NOW), and other automation providers.

In a recent SEC filing, UiPath's Chief Accounting Officer Hitesh Ramani disposed of 50,000 shares over Thursday and Friday, totaling approximately $831,250. The transactions were executed under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan adopted on March 25, limiting their interpretation as a new discretionary move. Ramani continues to hold 235,052 shares directly.

Investors will be watching closely in the coming week to see if the stock can maintain its gains above the $16 level. The company is scheduled to report its second-quarter earnings on September 3 after market close. The key question is whether UiPath can translate its agentic AI momentum into accelerated recurring revenue growth and stable margins, or if the stock's recent premium will prove unsustainable.
