Chinese electric vehicle maker XPeng (NYSE: XPEV) is setting its sights on a significant expansion of its international footprint, announcing an ambitious target to more than double its overseas sales pace. The company revealed that it aims to increase overseas deliveries by a factor of 2.3 compared to first-quarter levels, a move that underscores its commitment to global growth.
The cornerstone of this strategy is the newly launched L03 SUV, which starts at €35,600 in Germany. With deliveries scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter, the L03 is positioned as a more affordable entry point for European consumers. The model is now available for order across 65 markets, signaling XPeng's intent to capture a larger share of the international EV market.
Aggressive Growth Targets
To meet its 2026 goal of approximately 90,000 registrations outside China, XPeng must significantly accelerate its sales momentum. After reporting 11,557 overseas registrations in the first quarter, the company needs to register an additional 78,443 units by year-end. This translates to a monthly average of 8,716 vehicles, a pace 2.3 times faster than the 3,852 average seen in Q1.
Europe is central to this expansion, having accounted for 68% of XPeng's overseas registrations in the first quarter. Of the company's 380 international sales sites, 290 are located in Europe, representing 76% of its global network. This strong European presence provides a solid foundation for the L03's rollout.
L03 Lineup and Pricing
The L03 is offered in several variants in Germany, with prices ranging from €35,600 for the base RWD Standard Range model to €46,600 for the AWD Performance Ultra. All prices include 19% German VAT. The lineup includes a Long Range version with a stated 520 km WLTP range, a Performance variant with 285 kW output, and a range-extender option that offers a combined range of up to 1,000 km.
The price gap between the base and top-tier models is 31%, providing flexibility in the lineup mix. However, the base variant is expected to be the primary volume driver. Markus Schrick, head of Central Europe, emphasized the company's focus on "quality growth and stable prices and residual values" during a recent update.
Operational Performance
XPeng's recent operating figures present a mixed picture. While July deliveries rose just 4% year-on-year to 38,027 units, the company has surpassed 1.2 million cumulative deliveries. In 2025, XPeng delivered 429,445 vehicles, a 125.9% increase, with revenue reaching RMB 76.72 billion, up 87.7%. The company also achieved its first quarterly net profit in Q4 2025, with a gross margin of 21.3%.
The L03 is expected to boost the share of overseas sales, which remains a key strategic focus. The company's ability to scale up production and delivery in international markets will be critical to achieving its targets.
Market Reaction and Analyst Views
Investors have shown cautious optimism. XPeng's American depositary shares ended at $11.99 on August 19, up 2.13%, and were trading at $12.17 in pre-market activity on August 20. The stock remains near the lower end of its 52-week range of $11.49 to $28.24. Analysts see significant upside potential, with a consensus target price of $22.07, though the wide range suggests notable execution risk.
Recent analyst actions include a Hold rating from Bernstein with a $20 target, a Buy from Goldman Sachs at $20, and a Buy from Citigroup at $23. BofA Securities has a $25 target, reflecting a bullish stance on the company's growth prospects.
Risks and Outlook
Several risks could impede XPeng's overseas ambitions. European tariffs, potential homologation delays, and the expansion of the dealer network are all factors that could affect sales. Additionally, low residual values and final certification changes could impact range claims and consumer confidence.
The company is set to release its second-quarter earnings before U.S. markets open on August 24. Investors will be closely watching for updates on overseas shipments, L03 order intake, and margin forecasts. The focus will be on execution speed rather than media presence, as XPeng navigates a challenging but promising international landscape.
