Cryptocurrency markets remained active over the weekend, with XRP trading near $1.06, down roughly 1.5% over the past seven days. Despite the relatively stable price, investor interest in U.S.-listed XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) showed only modest momentum, with preliminary data indicating $7.69 million in net inflows on Friday. This comes as the broader digital asset market continues to digest regulatory and technological developments.

The muted ETF activity underscores a persistent gap between XRP and its larger counterparts. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs hold approximately $76.29 billion in net assets, representing about 6.0% of Bitcoin's market capitalization. Ether ETFs follow with $10.23 billion, or roughly 4.6% of Ether's market cap. In contrast, XRP ETFs account for just $0.989 billion, a mere 1.5% of XRP's total market value. This disparity suggests that while XRP has significant room for institutional adoption, current regulated demand remains limited.

Friday's flow data revealed a divergence among asset classes. Bitcoin investment products experienced substantial outflows of $265.37 million, while Ether and XRP both attracted inflows—$9.03 million and $7.69 million, respectively. However, the monthly picture tells a different story: XRP's July inflows totaled just $27.29 million, less than one-tenth of Ether's $365.17 million. This stark contrast highlights the relative weakness of institutional interest in XRP.

The scale of ETF activity relative to global trading volume further illustrates this point. CoinGecko recorded XRP's worldwide 24-hour trading volume at approximately $777.78 million, while U.S. ETF trading volume reached only $8.62 million—just 1.11% of the global figure. Net new ETF units added $7.69 million, representing 0.99% of global volume. These numbers indicate that ETF-driven buying remains a minor factor in XRP's price discovery, which continues to be dominated by broader cryptocurrency market movements.

Market conditions for trading remain subdued. Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN) shares fell 5.6% in premarket trading on Friday after reporting its third consecutive quarterly loss. Despite this, Zacks analyst David Bartosiak noted that the exchange gained market share in what he described as a 'softer crypto environment.' This sentiment reflects the cautious tone prevailing across the digital asset sector.

Looking ahead, XRP faces a unique technical catalyst. Jazzi Cooper, who leads product development at RippleX, announced that xrpld version 3.3.0 is expected to launch in the week beginning August 3. The upgrade includes several proposed amendments designed to enhance institutional functionality. Among them are Confidential MPT, which allows hidden balances with audit privileges for approved parties; Batch, which processes up to eight connected transactions as a single unit; Permission Delegation, offering restricted signing privileges; Sponsored Fees and Reserves, enabling institutions to cover fees on behalf of users; and Dynamic MPT, which permits certain token features to update without full migration.

The potential impact of these amendments on XRP demand varies. Sponsored Fees could increase network activity by allowing banks or platforms to pay transaction fees for users, who retain control of their keys. However, this may not obligate all users to hold XRP. Other proposals, such as Batch and Permission Delegation, address previous security vulnerabilities related to unauthorized transactions and fee draining, though no funds were lost in those incidents.

For the amendments to take effect, each must receive support from over 80% of trusted validators for two consecutive weeks. If support falls below that threshold during the process, approval resets. This governance mechanism ensures broad consensus before any changes are implemented.

As U.S. ETF trading resumes on Monday, investors will be watching whether Friday's inflows continue and whether fund assets expand their market share. The ledger upgrade also warrants attention. However, a single positive session or a software release alone does not establish sustained demand for XRP. The cryptocurrency's price will likely remain sensitive to broader market trends and institutional sentiment in the coming weeks.
