NEW YORK, July 21, 2026 – Shares of Aehr Test Systems (NASDAQ:AEHR) experienced a significant surge on Tuesday, climbing 28% as market participants shifted their focus to the company's long-term growth potential, moving beyond the current order backlog. The stock closed the regular session at $98.91, a gain of 27.9%, and continued to edge higher in after-hours trading, reaching $99.51.
The rally added approximately $700 million to Aehr's equity value, a figure that is five times the midpoint of the company's fiscal 2027 revenue guidance. This single-day increase brought the company's market capitalization to roughly $3.22 billion, representing about 23 times the projected fiscal 2027 sales midpoint. The comparison underscores how much the valuation has outpaced reported orders.
According to the company's most recent financial disclosure, dated July 14, the surge appears to be a continuation of a post-earnings revaluation, further supported by broad-based buying in the semiconductor sector. The report highlighted fourth-quarter revenue of $18.8 million, record bookings of $60.7 million, and an effective backlog of $100.6 million. For fiscal 2027, Aehr forecasted revenue between $130 million and $150 million, with non-GAAP net income projected at 18% to 22% of revenue.
Chief Executive Gayn Erickson noted that the backlog provides "substantial visibility" for the outlook, adding that Aehr's primary AI client is making a significant capacity increase. However, even if the entire backlog converts within the fiscal year, an additional $39.4 million in orders would be required to hit the midpoint revenue target. The effective backlog currently covers approximately 72% of the revenue midpoint.
The broader semiconductor sector also rallied on Tuesday. The Philadelphia semiconductor index rose 5.5%, while the Nasdaq advanced 1.39%. Peers such as Teradyne (NASDAQ:TER) climbed about 12.2%, Cohu (NASDAQ:COHU) gained 9.1%, and FormFactor (NASDAQ:FORM) increased 8.1%.
Despite the strong performance, some caution remains. Lindsey Bell, chief investment strategist at 248 Ventures, remarked that chip stocks are "priced for perfection," a sentiment that carries additional weight given Aehr's elevated valuation. The company's effective backlog is still roughly 28% below the midpoint of forecast revenue, and according to the most recent quarterly filing, a single customer accounted for 42.1% of overall revenue. The composition of that customer base may have shifted since February.
Analyst sentiment remains positive, with four analysts covering the stock assigning a Buy rating. Their mean price target of $115 is 16.3% above Tuesday's closing level. The previous week saw a contrasting backdrop, as the chip index declined nearly 10%, entering bear market territory after dropping over 20% from its June peak. Semiconductor earnings are expected to challenge Tuesday's rebound in the coming week.
For Aehr, the immediate focus is on order conversion as the next company-specific hurdle. Tuesday's rally settled the issue of momentum but has increased the pressure on execution. The company's ability to convert its record backlog into revenue will be key to sustaining investor confidence.
