BitMine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: BMNR) saw its shares tick up 0.2% on Wednesday, reaching $23.42 by 14:34 EDT. The modest gain came as the company's primary digital asset, ether, slipped 0.9% to $2,395.01, according to Yahoo Finance data. This decline in ether's price has narrowed the buffer between BitMine's market valuation and its underlying asset holdings.
Based on the latest disclosed holdings and market marks, BitMine's common shares are estimated to be worth approximately $24.21 each. That represents a 3.3% premium to the current trading price, a significant shift from recent sessions where the discount was wider. The estimate is derived from the company's August 30 disclosure of $15.6 billion in total cryptocurrency, cash, and investments, which included 5.90 million ether tokens valued at $2,511 each.
Applying Wednesday's ether price to that holding reduces the gross asset value by roughly $685 million, bringing the preliminary marked holdings to about $14.92 billion. After accounting for preferred claims and liabilities, the estimated common-equity reference stands at $14.61 billion, or $24.21 per share, based on 603.23 million outstanding shares.
BitMine's stock has been volatile in recent weeks, trading 64% below its 52-week high but still 31% above its 50-day moving average. The company's aggressive share issuance—outstanding shares surged 160% over the past year to 603.2 million—has been a key factor in diluting per-share value, even as the company continues to accumulate ether.
Chairman Thomas Lee noted that BitMine acquired 53,501 ETH over the past week, underscoring the company's strategy of building its digital asset treasury. As of August 30, BitMine had staked 5.07 million ether, representing 86% of its holdings, which the company estimates generates $340 million in annualized staking revenue.
However, the operating business remains modest. In the May quarter, staking and validation revenue totaled $45.7 million, while self-mining contributed just $624,000. This highlights the company's heavy reliance on ether price appreciation and staking yields to drive shareholder value.
Analysts point out that the key metric for investors is whether BitMine can grow its ether holdings and staking income faster than the dilution from new share issuance. The recent decline in ether prices has reduced the asset cushion, but the stock's premium to net asset value suggests some optimism about future growth.
Investors should be aware of the risks, including ether price volatility, staking return variability, and potential future equity offerings. The estimated net asset value is not a reported figure and could change rapidly with market conditions.
