Infosys Limited (NSE:INFY) shares closed Monday at ₹1,079.20, gaining 3.68% as Indian stock markets ended the session. The uptick came despite the company's recent downward revision of its FY27 growth guidance, with the rally attributed primarily to a shift in sector allocation by institutional investors.

Jefferies Financial Group (NYSE:JEF) included Infosys in its model portfolio while maintaining a Hold rating. The closing price was 5.8% above Jefferies' recently reduced target of ₹1,020, indicating that the move was driven by portfolio rebalancing rather than an upgrade in earnings expectations.

Jefferies upgraded its stance on the Indian IT sector from underweight to neutral after discussions with over 50 international funds. The firm cited reduced concerns regarding the global AI trade as the reason for the adjustment, which led to increased holdings in the sector.

Infosys outperformed its peers on Monday. The Nifty IT index advanced 2.3%, with Tata Consultancy Services (NSE:TCS) up 1.83%, HCL Technologies (NSE:HCLTECH) rising 1.98%, and Wipro (NSE:WIPRO) gaining 0.76%. The broader market move reflected a reversal of the initial negative reaction to Infosys' earnings report.

The company revised its FY27 constant-currency growth outlook to 1.5%-3.0%, down from the previous range of 1.5%-3.5%. Margin guidance remained unchanged at 20%-22%. First-quarter revenue stood at ₹48,211 crore, representing a 14% increase in reported terms, with constant-currency growth of 2.4% year-on-year and 1.0% sequentially. Both revenue and profit fell short of consensus expectations.

Large-deal bookings totaled $3.6 billion, with 61% classified as net new. The operating margin came in at 21.1%, and free cash flow reached $955 million. AI services accounted for 8.2% of total revenue. Chief Executive Salil Parekh noted, "AI momentum is now rapidly converting into revenue."

Leadership changes added another dimension. Ashiss Kumar Dash is set to take over as CEO in April 2027 following a planned handover. Phil Fersht of HFS Research described him as "a safe, execution-focused appointment."

Trading activity reflected deliberate repricing. Combined turnover for Friday and Monday reached 45 million shares, a 66% increase over two sessions compared to the 20-day average. The closing price on Monday was 3.0% higher than before the results on Thursday but still 1.6% below the level on July 17. Infosys had declined 5.1% for the week ending July 24.

Key price levels to watch include ₹1,047.40, which would sustain the post-results rebound, and ₹1,096.50, which would offset last week's losses. Risks remain, including reduced discretionary spending, pricing pressure from AI, and sluggish deal conversions. The extended leadership transition introduces further execution risk. While Monday's price action restored some confidence, the growth outlook remains unchanged, leaving the earnings question open.
