IREN Limited (NASDAQ:IREN) closed Friday at $36.80, down 3.8% on the day, but the stock finished the week with a modest 0.7% decline. The muted weekly performance masks a turbulent five sessions that included a 30.5% surge on Thursday and a 13.6% drop on Wednesday, underscoring the market's intense focus on the company's ambitious AI Cloud expansion.

AI Cloud Target Raises the Bar

The company has set a year-end target of more than $4 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR) from its AI Cloud business, a figure that is over 29.8 times its latest quarterly AI revenue annualized. Management says roughly 85% of that target is already under contract, shifting the investor narrative from contract signing to delivery and acceptance.

In the March quarter, IREN reported AI Cloud revenue of $33.6 million, up from $3.6 million a year earlier, while Bitcoin mining revenue fell by the same dollar amount to $111.2 million. Combined revenue was flat at $144.8 million, highlighting the transition underway. Bitcoin still accounted for 76.8% of total revenue, but AI Cloud is now the growth engine.

Execution is Key

“Our vertically integrated AI Cloud platform is scaling at pace,” said co-CEO Daniel Roberts. The company plans to deliver 480 megawatts of capacity during 2026, up from roughly 3 megawatts a year earlier, and targets 1.2 gigawatts in 2027. That buildout requires significant capital, but IREN says customer prepayments cover about 45% of associated GPU spending, and it held $7.6 billion in cash and equivalents at the end of June, including $1.7 billion in restricted cash.

Friday's trading volume was heavy at 65.5 million shares, 34% above the 65-day average, with the stock ranging between $35.16 and $40.82. That activity suggests investors are actively repricing the stock based on execution expectations.

Peer Reports Could Reset Sentiment

Next week, three mining-to-AI peers—Cipher Digital (NASDAQ:CIFR), TeraWulf (NASDAQ:WULF), and MARA Holdings (NASDAQ:MARA)—will report earnings, providing fresh benchmarks for the sector. IREN has no scheduled events on its calendar, but the peer calls could influence assumptions about hosting demand and capital needs.

Over the past five sessions, IREN outperformed these peers, losing 0.7% versus declines of 3.6% for Cipher, 4.3% for TeraWulf, 6.6% for MARA, and 10.5% for Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT). The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.6% during the same period.

Valuation and Risks

Friday's market capitalization stood at $13.15 billion, less than 3.3 times the minimum year-end ARR target. That multiple looks attractive only if the company can deliver on its contracts. Risks include GPU delivery delays, commissioning issues, customer acceptance failures, and fluctuations in Bitcoin mining economics, which still drive most of the reported revenue.

The weekly close sends a clear message: contract demand has outpaced reported AI revenue, and the next leg of the stock's move will depend on turning those contracts into operational capacity and visible sales.
