Bloom Energy Corporation (NYSE:BE) saw its stock climb 4.3% in early trading Wednesday following the release of its strongest-ever quarterly financial results. The shares reached $188.50 before settling at $173.94, marking a 13% increase from Tuesday's closing price.
The clean energy technology company reported second-quarter revenue of $1.065 billion, significantly surpassing analyst expectations of approximately $826 million. Adjusted earnings came in at $0.78 per share, well ahead of the consensus estimate of $0.41.
Customer Concentration Raises Questions
An updated regulatory filing revealed that a single, unnamed customer contributed roughly 73% of Bloom Energy's revenue during the quarter. This customer, valued at approximately $778 million based on the filing's rounded percentage, is not identified as a related party. The disclosure corrected earlier labeling errors in the company's customer-risk reporting.
This level of concentration is nearly double Bloom Energy's total revenue from the same period last year, which stood at $401.2 million. The company's reliance on a handful of clients remains a key risk factor, with approximately 65% of first-half revenue coming from just two customers.
Outlook and Valuation
Bloom Energy raised its full-year guidance following the strong quarter. The midpoint for 2026 revenue forecast increased by 12.5% to $4.05 billion, while adjusted EPS guidance rose 31.7% to $2.70. To achieve these targets, the company needs approximately $2.23 billion in sales during the second half of the year, representing a 23% increase from the first half's performance.
At current share prices, Bloom Energy's market capitalization stands at approximately $56.2 billion, or about 13.9 times the updated revenue midpoint. The stock trades at roughly 64 times the midpoint of its adjusted EPS outlook.
Profitability and Cash Flow Improvements
Stronger sales drove significant improvements in profitability. Gross margin expanded to 33.4% from 26.7% a year earlier, while operating margin turned positive at 17.1%, compared with a negative 0.9% in the prior-year period. The company also generated positive operating cash flow of $226.4 million, a substantial turnaround from negative $213.1 million in the same quarter last year.
Chief Executive KR Sridhar highlighted the company's growing acceptance in the AI data center market, stating that Bloom Energy has become a standard for onsite power solutions. He noted that leading U.S. hyperscalers and over a dozen other operators have approved Bloom's systems.
Risks and Outlook
Despite the strong quarter, concentration risk remains a key concern. Warranty liabilities totaled $77.8 million, and recourse debt was close to $2.48 billion. For investors, the upcoming focus will be on diversifying the customer base. If growth is distributed among multiple clients, the improved outlook appears more sustainable.
