CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV) shares closed at $71.88 on Friday, down 11.4%, erasing gains from earlier in the week and leaving the stock 1.8% lower for the week. The decline was part of a broader selloff in neocloud stocks, with Nebius Group falling 14.8%, IREN down 8.7%, and Applied Digital dropping 9.0%.

Backlog Conversion Key Concern

A preliminary calculation suggests that only about $35.6 billion of CoreWeave's $98.8 billion remaining performance obligations (RPO) is expected to be recognized within the next two years. That figure represents roughly 36% of the total backlog and approaches the upper end of the company's 2026 capital spending guidance of $31 billion to $35 billion. The equity market value of CoreWeave stands at approximately $37.9 billion.

At Friday's close, CoreWeave's revenue backlog of $99.4 billion was 2.62 times its equity value, while the expected 24-month RPO recognition of $35.6 billion was 0.94 times equity value. The company's debt stood at $24.9 billion as of March 31, representing 0.66 times equity value. These comparisons highlight the scale of the company's commitments relative to its current market capitalization.

Financial Performance and Costs

CoreWeave's first-quarter revenue more than doubled to $2.08 billion, and CEO Michael Intrator described it as "the strongest bookings quarter in CoreWeave's history." However, profit conversion lagged, with adjusted operating margin narrowing to 1% from 17% a year earlier. Net interest expense surged to $536 million from $264 million, reflecting the cost of financing the company's rapid expansion.

Cash demands were heavy: operating cash flow reached $2.98 billion, but property purchases consumed $7.70 billion, leaving a significant funding gap that financing activities filled with $3.91 billion. The company recently priced $1.25 billion of dollar notes with a 9.625% coupon and a €2 billion tranche at 8.5%, underscoring the expensive nature of its debt.

Customer Concentration and Earnings Catalysts

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), which accounted for about 67% of CoreWeave's 2025 revenue, reports fiscal fourth-quarter results after Wednesday's close. Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META), with CoreWeave commitments totaling $35.2 billion through 2032, reports the same day. Their spending plans will provide the week's clearest demand check, and any slowdown could weaken CoreWeave's backlog-conversion narrative.

Risks remain elevated. Customer concentration magnifies any spending pause, while construction delays, component inflation, and refinancing costs could widen the funding gap. Bookings are not the near-term constraint; the next rerating rests on cash conversion and financing discipline.

Market Context

The selloff in neocloud stocks followed renewed concern over hyperscaler spending and AI-infrastructure financing. CoreWeave's volatile week included gains of 8.9% Tuesday and 3.9% Wednesday, which were surrendered over the final two sessions. The parallel moves across the group suggest the rout was not company-specific but rather a broader reevaluation of the sector.
