CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV) has staged an impressive recovery, with shares climbing 26.3% over the past week, as investors position for the company's second-quarter earnings report due Tuesday after the market close. The stock's surge has more than doubled the move implied by options, which currently price in a swing of roughly 13% by Friday.

The initial consensus estimate for Q2 revenue stands at $2.56 billion, which is just 1.4% above the midpoint of management's guidance range of $2.45 billion to $2.60 billion. That leaves little room for a routine beat, and the market is looking for signs of improving margins as the company scales its AI cloud infrastructure.

CoreWeave's financials reveal a delicate balance. In the first quarter, the company reported revenue of $2.078 billion and adjusted operating income of just $21 million, while net interest expense reached $536 million and the net loss widened to $740 million. For the second quarter, analysts estimate adjusted operating income between $30 million and $90 million, with a midpoint of $60 million, implying a margin of roughly 2.4%.

The company's debt load remains a focal point. Interest expenses are projected at 11.5 times adjusted operating income for the second quarter, and capital expenditures are expected to be 3.1 times anticipated revenue. This heavy investment cycle is necessary to expand capacity, but it also amplifies the risk if results disappoint.

CoreWeave's backlog provides a strong foundation for long-term growth. As of March, the company held $99.4 billion in contracted revenue and over one gigawatt of active power. CEO Michael Intrator described the first quarter as "the strongest bookings quarter in CoreWeave's history." This robust pipeline has led analysts to focus on execution rather than demand.

Bank of America analysts noted that "the key debate is less about demand and more about execution," while Oppenheimer's Param Singh and Jake Heimowitz dismissed capacity-delay concerns as "overblown." The broader analyst community remains optimistic, with FactSet data showing 28 analysts with positive ratings, 12 with hold ratings, and only two with negative views. The average price target of $138.37 implies upside of 52.6% from Friday's closing price of $90.67.

However, the options market suggests a wide range of possible outcomes. The calculated post-earnings range is $78.88 to $102.46, based on the options-implied move. The lower end is still above the July 31 closing price of $71.77, while the upper end is below the June 22 closing price of $111.29, indicating that investors are bracing for volatility but not a complete reset.

This week's earnings season offers several sector indicators. Nebius Group (NASDAQ:NBIS) will provide a read on neocloud demand, while Lumentum Holdings (NASDAQ:LITE) and Applied Materials (NASDAQ:AMAT) will shed light on optical and chip-equipment spending. CoreWeave's results will be the first major test for AI infrastructure names.

The ideal scenario for CoreWeave would be revenue at the upper end of guidance, improved operating income, and reaffirmation of full-year revenue guidance of $12 billion to $13 billion and capital expenditures of $31 billion to $35 billion. Executives must also address concerns about data-center delays and rising component costs, which could impact margins.

As always, the risk is that any miss could trigger a sharp selloff given the company's high leverage. The options market reflects this sensitivity, and the stock's recent rebound may be tested by the upcoming report.
