French quantum computing firm Pasqal Holding SA (NASDAQ: PSQL) made a striking entrance on the Nasdaq on Friday, with shares surging 54.7% to $15.14 at the open. The debut follows the completion of its merger with Bleichroeder Acquisition Corp. II, a SPAC transaction that valued the neutral-atom quantum specialist at approximately $2 billion.

Market Debut and Trading Activity

As of 10:57 a.m. EDT, Pasqal's stock was trading at $15.14, with volume reaching 2.15 million shares. The intraday range was notably wide, spanning from $13.08 to $19.00, an unusually large spread for a first trading session. This volatility highlights the active price discovery in a low-float, pre-profit stock.

Notably, Pasqal's debut stood in sharp contrast to the broader quantum computing sector, which saw notable declines on Friday morning. IonQ (IONQ) fell 6.0% to $39.90, Rigetti Computing (RGTI) slipped 3.3% to $15.91, D-Wave Quantum (QBTS) dropped 4.4% to $17.12, and Quantum Computing Inc. (QUBT) declined 2.7% to $8.42. This divergence underscores the market's distinct reception of Pasqal's public listing.

Merger Details and Financial Position

The SPAC merger delivered approximately $360 million in cash to Pasqal at closing. This figure, however, fell short of the $649.1 million projected in the May deal model, which assumed no redemptions. The shortfall of about $289 million is significant and could impact the company's near-term capital plans.

Pasqal intends to utilize the new funding to scale up manufacturing, introduce additional processors, and focus on developing fault-tolerant quantum systems. The company's ultimate goal is to exceed 200 logical qubits by the end of 2029.

Business Fundamentals and Technology

Pasqal's technology employs lasers to position and manipulate neutral atoms, targeting applications in materials science, drug discovery, and optimization. However, ongoing error rates continue to limit the scalability and reliability of quantum systems, a challenge the entire industry faces.

For 2025, Pasqal reported commercial revenue of €16.5 million, a substantial increase from €3.5 million in 2024. Including grants, total revenue for the year reached €23.7 million. The company also reported over €66 million in confirmed and pending business, operates 10 commercial processors (seven deployed, three under construction), and serves more than 40 clients and partners. Pasqal holds over 85 patents either granted or pending and employs more than 70 PhDs.

Valuation and Risks

The initial deal structure was based on $10 per share and 264.4 million shares, resulting in a pro forma equity value of $2.64 billion. Based on Friday's share price of $15.14 and the same no-redemption share count, the notional value stands at $4.00 billion. However, this figure is not an up-to-date market capitalization; final redemptions, warrants, convertible securities, and lockup expirations may alter the tradable float and fully diluted share count.

As of the debut session, no consensus price target from brokers or public forecasts was available, leaving valuation to pure price discovery. Risks remain substantial: Pasqal continues to operate at a loss with limited revenues, hardware milestones could face delays, and dilution may be affected by redemptions, warrants, and convertible financing. Furthermore, quantum error rates could impede progress toward commercial gains.
