Shares of EHang Holdings Limited (NASDAQ: EH) experienced a sharp decline on Tuesday, falling 9.90% to $4.68, as the autonomous aircraft manufacturer withdrew its 2026 revenue outlook following a significant quarterly sales miss. The stock's decline erased approximately $39 million in market capitalization, bringing the company's valuation to $355.3 million.

Revenue Miss and Guidance Withdrawal

For the second quarter of 2026, EHang reported revenue of RMB77.9 million (approximately $11.5 million), a figure that fell 41.4% short of the RMB132.96 million consensus estimate from financial data providers. While the company showed sequential improvement—revenue surged 203.5% from the previous quarter—the year-over-year comparison was less favorable, with revenue declining 31.3% from RMB113.3 million in the same period last year.

Management's decision to withdraw the RMB600 million 2026 revenue target came as a surprise to investors. Chief Financial Officer Conor Yang stated that the company would "withdraw our previously issued 2026 revenue guidance" and declined to provide a new forecast, citing increased uncertainty surrounding the timing of regulatory approvals in China.

Regulatory Headwinds

The regulatory environment in China has become more stringent following a deadly light-aircraft crash in late June. Although EHang confirmed that its aircraft were not involved in the incident, the resulting oversight measures have led to delays in certain passenger-service approvals. This regulatory caution is expected to postpone the commencement of paid passenger flights and potentially reduce aircraft deliveries in the near term.

Operational Performance

Despite the revenue shortfall, EHang demonstrated a significant recovery in deliveries from the first quarter. The company shipped 36 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, compared to just four in the prior quarter. However, this still represented a 31% decline from the 52 aircraft delivered in the same quarter last year. The delivery mix included 35 EH216-series aircraft and one VT35 model.

Gross margin remained relatively stable at 61.2%, slightly down from 62.5% in the first quarter but roughly in line with the 61.5% reported a year ago. However, the company's operating loss widened to RMB131.7 million, equivalent to 169% of quarterly revenue, as strong margins failed to offset the operational base.

Analyst Sentiment and Market Reaction

The stock's decline was accompanied by elevated trading activity. By 14:48 EDT, volume had reached 2.27 million shares, or 3.44 times EHang's typical average of 660,390 shares. The market's response reflects growing concerns about the company's ability to execute its commercialization strategy amid regulatory uncertainty.

Analyst opinions on EHang are divided. Among the five latest ratings, there is one Buy, two Hold, and two Sell recommendations. The consensus price target stands at $7.12, with the lowest estimate at $4.40. Bank of America maintained its Sell rating on Tuesday, setting a price target of $5.10.

Balance Sheet Strength

Despite the operational challenges, EHang maintains a solid financial position. As of June 30, the company held RMB929.4 million in cash and investments, which is nearly three times its annualized second-quarter revenue. This liquidity position is sufficient to cover approximately seven quarters of operating losses at the current rate, before accounting for changes in working capital.

Diversification Efforts

EHang is actively expanding its revenue streams beyond passenger transportation. During the quarter, the company sold 520 GD4.0 formation drones. Additionally, a subsidiary participated in a record-setting Japanese light show featuring 4,000 drones, announced on Tuesday. These initiatives, while promising, do not fully compensate for the lack of a clear Chinese passenger-sales schedule.

In the absence of updated guidance from management, investors are left to interpret the company's trajectory through observable milestones, such as overseas sandbox projects and drone show revenues. The regulatory reset point serves as a proxy forecast, but the lack of a definitive timeline for Chinese passenger operations remains a significant overhang for the stock.
