ASML Holding NV (AMS:ASML) saw its shares trade nearly unchanged on Friday, as market focus shifted to the company's fourth-quarter revenue target of approximately €14.4 billion. At 13:50 CEST, the stock was priced at €1,579, reflecting a marginal dip of 0.01%. The broader AEX index edged up 0.03%, while the Stoxx Europe 600 Technology index advanced 1.13%, indicating that ASML underperformed the sector by roughly 1.1 percentage points.
Based on ASML's full-year guidance of €43 billion to €45 billion and third-quarter revenue forecast of €11 billion to €12 billion, initial midpoint calculations suggest fourth-quarter sales of €14.41 billion. This would represent a 54% increase over the second quarter's €9.33 billion, and a 25% sequential rise from the third quarter. The second half of the year is expected to account for approximately 59% of total annual revenue, underscoring a significant operational ramp-up.
Intel's Capital Expenditure Boost
Adding to the positive sentiment, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) raised its 2026 capital expenditure forecast to $20 billion, up from the previous $18 billion projection. CFO Dave Zinsner noted that Intel is "meaningfully increasing our investments in equipment." While this budget primarily covers clean-room facilities and substrates, and does not directly translate into ASML orders, it reinforces the broader investment cycle that supports ASML's growth strategy. Intel's stock rose 6% in premarket trading following the announcement.
Operational Ramp and Capacity Expansion
ASML's operational momentum is evident from its delivery of 86 new lithography systems in the second quarter, up from 67 in the prior quarter. Installed-base management sales climbed 11% to €2.76 billion. Chief Executive Christophe Fouquet stated that "order intake remained extremely strong" during the first half of the year. The company is targeting a 30% capacity increase in 2027 compared with 2026, applicable to both low-NA EUV and DUV immersion systems.
Peer data also points to robust demand. BE Semiconductor Industries (AMS:BESI) posted second-quarter orders of €292.9 million, a 129% year-over-year increase, and projected sequential revenue growth of 10% to 15% for the third quarter. However, Besi shares slipped 1.35% on Friday, suggesting that strong demand is already widely priced in, and investors are now scrutinizing delivery speeds and revenue schedules.
Market Valuation and Risks
ASML's market value stands at approximately €614 billion, with shares trading at 58.6 times trailing earnings. This valuation leaves limited tolerance for any timing slip in revenue recognition. Key risks include customer demand fluctuations, factory ramp-up performance, product distribution, and the timing of revenue. Intel's budget remains general and does not represent a direct ASML order. Should third-quarter results come in lower than expected, the fourth-quarter bar would rise accordingly. For instance, if Q3 sales reach €12 billion, Q4 would need €13.9 billion; if Q3 falls to €11 billion, the Q4 requirement jumps to €14.9 billion.
With the annual midpoint set at €44 billion, the upcoming third-quarter results will be crucial to gauge whether ASML is on track to meet its year-end target. The company has yet to provide official fourth-quarter guidance, leaving investors to rely on these inferred calculations.
